Frequently Asked Questions

Why women-only?

Jiujitsu is a physical art that is deeply shaped by the body practicing it. Women often experience jiujitsu differently due to differences in size, strength distribution, nervous-system response, and prior experience with physical contact. A women-only environment allows students to relax, learn at a natural pace, and build confidence through calm, embodied movement.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable workout clothes like shorts or leggings and a t-shirt, or more traditional 'No-Gi jiujitsu' gear like rash guards and spats. Clothing should not have zippers or strings. Wear flip flops or slides, and please remove all jewelry before stepping on the mats.

Is this a self-defense class?

Practical self-defense skills are a natural outcome of practicing jiujitsu. By learning foundational jiujitsu positions, movement, and control in a safe, non-aggressive environment, students build awareness, confidence, and muscle memory that translates well to real-life situations.

Is this "easy" or just for fun?

No. While the tone is welcoming and the pace is intentional, these training sessions challeng students to develop grit, body awareness, and resilience. Jiujitsu teaches calm through pressure- and pressure is part of the process.

Do I need experience to attend?

No experience is required. These training sessions are designed as a solid entry point into jiujitsu and is especially welcoming to beginners. More experienced students are also welcome if they enjoy a technical, fundamental-based approach to the art. Hard rolling or sparring never required.

What should I expect physically?

While these training sessions are beginner-friendly, it is still a physical practice. Students should expect to sweat, feel challenged, and engage in conditioning and movement drills. Learning jiujitsu requires effort and presence, and this class builds both inner and outer strength in a supportive environment.
