Frequently Asked Questions
- 01Absolutely not. Our programs are structured to accommodate all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced competitors. We focus on teaching the fundamentals and building skills progressively. New students are paired with experienced partners and guided by our patient, expert coaches. Everyone begins somewhere, and we provide a supportive environment for your first steps.
- 02For Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes, we recommend wearing comfortable athletic wear without zippers or pockets. If you sign up for a Gi class, we can provide a loaner uniform for your trial period. For MMA or Striking classes, athletic shorts and a t-shirt are perfect. Always bring a water bottle and a great attitude, ready to learn.
- 03Training at Parabellum Jiu Jitsu MMA Academy goes beyond fitness. You'll gain mental discipline, confidence, and practical self-defense skills while becoming part of a supportive, goal-driven community.
- 04Consistency is the key to progress in martial arts. We generally recommend training at least two to three times per week to build muscle memory and retain techniques effectively. Many of our students train more frequently, especially those with competition goals. We encourage finding a schedule that fits your life and allows for consistent attendance.
- 05Gi BJJ involves wearing the traditional uniform, which is used to grab and control an opponent. No-Gi BJJ is practiced in shorts and a rash guard, making grips unavailable and emphasizing different control positions and faster, slipperier transitions. Both are excellent training methods and complement each other for a well-rounded grappling skill set.
- 06Our comprehensive curriculum incorporates practical self-defense techniques across all BJJ and MMA classes. These skills are taught as part of a complete martial arts education. Training includes defenses against various grabs and strikes, preparing students for real-life situations. The focus remains on effective, practical application for security.
